Dr. John J. Dickey Diary, Fleming County, Ky. Recorded in the 1870's and beyond. Reprinted in Kentucky Explorer, Volume 11, No 2 June, 1996, p. 83. By permission. Breathitt County The following interview was made at Lost Creek, Kentucky. JEREMIAH NOBLE My grandfather, Nathan, with his brothers Enoch and William came from Lee County, Virginia, to Breathitt County, Kentucky. I think Noble is a Dutch (name). They were all unlearned men. I do not think they had any records of their ages. There were only three families on Lost Creek when they came. They were born in Richmond, Virginia. Nathan's wife was Jane Neece. A number of her brothers came with them, viz. - Jacob, Austin, and Henry. The Fugates came about the same time, and from the same place. There were four brothers of the Fugates, viz. - Jonathan, Eli, Levi, and Zachariah. Eli and Levi were soldiers in the Revolutionary War. They both drew pensions. I think Henry was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, but I am not positive. Barney Russell was one of the families on Lost Creek when these came. Ab Russell is a descendant of Barney Russell. The Haddixes were here when these people came. The first man in this country lived at the mouth of Lost Creek. He? (she) died first; then he died. They left no children. Lawson Noble, son of Nathan Noble, was born on the way from Virginia. Jonathan Fugate was a Revolutionary soldier also. He was a great hunter, and the stories of his exploits were widely known.
