Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B Bracken County WILLIAM J. IRWIN, a son of John and Sallie (Riley) Irwin, was born in Bracken County, Ky., March 6, 1831. His father was a native of South Carolina, and was one of the pioneers of Kentucky. William J. Irwin was reared and educated in his native county. In September, 1852, he married Miss Elizabeth Weatherington, by whom he has had three children, all of whom are deceased. He was active during the civil war in recruiting and giving information of the whereabouts of the enemy, and was always ready to comply with the wants of his friends in the Confederate army, and since that time he has almost constantly been engaged in local politics, having filled the offices of magistrate, deputy sheriff and sheriff of Bracken County; he is still active as the incumbent of the latter office.
