Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Bracken County JOHN BYAR, a son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Hook) Byar, was born in Bracken County, Ky., where he was reared and educated. In 1862 he enlisted in Company F, Third Kentucky Volunteer Confederate Cavalry, serving with distinction at the battles of Chickamauga and Atlanta. At the close of the war he engaged in farming, and in 1875 he married Miss Emma Frank, of Bracken County. In 1871 he was appointed deputy sheriff of Bracken County, and after the expiration of his term he engaged in the coal business. He is the owner of fine property in both the city and country, and is one of the prominent and enterprising business men of Augusta.
