KENTUCKY: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Boyle Co. WILLIAM K. ARGO was born October 8, 1857, in Lowell, Garrard Co, Ky., and is a son of Robert M. and Martha M. (Hobbs) Argo, to whom two sons were born: Robert M. Argo was born near Nelsonville, Nelson Co., Ky., was a saddler by trade, was a semi-mute, and self educated; his wife was also a mute and educated at Danville Deaf and Dumb Institute; his father came from Delaware to Kentucky, was of Scotch and Welsh origin and married a Miss Kavanaugh in Madison County. The mother of our subject was a daughter of John and Nancy (White) Hobbs, of Hardin County, Ky, William K. Argo was educated in a village school; at eighteen entered Centre College, from which he graduated in 1870, after which he entered the Deaf and Dumb Institute as a teacher. In the fall of 1884 he became its superintendent. He is a young man of high character and intellect.
