KENTUCKY: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Boyle Co. CLIFTON R. ANDERSON was born April 21, 1856, in Danville, and is a son of William C. and Amelia (Rhodes) Anderson, to whom two children were born and reared; Lizzie and Clifton. William C. Anderson was born in Lancaster in 1826, was a graduate from Centre College, and read law with Gov. Owsley in Frankford. After being admitted to the bar he located in Danville, and became one of the most successful of his profession. He represented Boyle County in the legislature one term, was elected to represent his district in Congress in 1858, and in 1861 was again elected to the Legislature; while at Frankford he died December, 1861, at the age of thirty-five years. He was a son of Simeon Anderson, who was born in Garrard County, was a prominent attorney and represented his county in the Legislature; also represented his district in Congress, and while in Washington died, and was buried in the National Cemetery. He was one of the most popular and influential men in the county, and was never defeated for an office when he entered the race. He married Amelia Owsley, a daughter of Gov. Owsley. Mrs. Amelia (Rhodes) Anderson, was born in Madison County, and is a daughter of Clifton and Amanda (Owsley) Rhodes, natives of Virginia, and early pioneers of Kentucky. Clifton Rhodes was a wealthy farmer, but moved to Danville and engaged in banking in the then Central Bank of Kentucky. He had previously represented Madison County in the Legislature. He died in December, 1878. Clifton Anderson was reared in Danville, and educated in Centre College, from which he graduated in 1875; he afterward taught one year, then carried on the grocery business for four years. Since he has been actively and largely engaged in milling, handling and shipping grain of all kinds. He is in politics a Democrat.
