Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Boyd County Jay F. Marcum, editor of the Kentucky Democrat, Catlettsburg, is a native of Lawrence County, Ky., and is a son of Thomas D. and Mary (Bromley) Marcum, who were born respectively in Lawrence County, Ky., and Wayne County, W. Va. Thomas D. Marcum, now a United States Inspector of Indian Agencies, was born in 1843, and for seven years was editor of the Democrat, which was established in 1870 and has now a circulation of 2,500 copies. Previous to this, however, he had been registrar in the United States Land Office from 1875 to 1879. In January, 1865, he married Miss Bromley, who bore him three children. His son, Jay F.
