Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. ALBERT G. WINSTON was born in Boone County, Ky., November 25, 1832. Of the Winstons, in a published life of William Winston Seaton, we learn that 200 years ago five brothers, Winstons, of Winston Hall, Yorkshire, England, gentlemen of fortune and family, immigrated to the colony of Virginia, in the spirit of adventure. They settled in Stocking, Hanover Co., Va., and their offspring is scattered through many States, the most brilliant name of the descendants being that of Patrick Henry, whose mother was Sarah Winston. From this distinguished family Albert. G. Winston, the subject of this sketch, is a descendant. He is a son of WIlliam H., a son of John W., whose wife was a Miss Noble, of Virginia. John W. Winston was a farmer, as was also William, and the latter was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, who died in 1881. The mother of our subject was Lucetta Watts, daughter of Nathan and Elizabeth Watts, a large and prominent family in Virginia and Boone County, Ky. Albert G. was the eldest of seven children born to William H. and Lucetta (Watts) Winston, viz: Noah N., Anne E., Mary L., Rebecca N., Virginia A. and Nancy. Our subject was reared on a farm, and educated in Covington, Ky. He began the study of law with Gov. John W. Stevenson, and was admitted to the bar in 1868. He was circuit clerk of Boone County from 1862 to 1868, and was also master commissioner at the same time. For ten years he was a law partner of Mr. Calvert, of Burlington, and now ranks as one of the leading attorneys of the county. He lives three and one-half miles from Burlington, on one of the most magnificent farm homesteads in Boone County. In 1855 he married Miss Georgetta Matson, of Oxford, Ohio, daughter of Phillip and Maggie (Magee) Matson. Six children have blessed this union: Mary L. (Hughes), Carrie (Gaines), Mattie G., Anna E., Charles A. (the latter graduating at the Woodward College, in Ohio, in 1886) and Katie L. (a student at the Oxford Ohio Musical and Female College). Mr. Winston is a gentleman and a scholar, and a stanch Republican in politics.
