Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. EUGENE S. RICE, M. D., was born in Boone County, Ky., April 9, 1857, the only child born to William B. and Mary A. (Cornelious) Rice. William B. Rice was born in Boone County, and was a son of Richard Rice, one of the pioneers of Kentucky. William B. Rice was brought up on the farm, but followed stock trading very extensively all his life. Mary A. Cornelious, his wife, was born in Kenton County. Our subject was brought up on the farm, and received his education at Eminence, Ky. In 1876 he commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Orin E. Newton, of Cincinnati, and graduated from the New York Eclectic Medical College in 1879. He then located at Independence, in Kenton County, Ky., and practiced his profession until 1882, and in 1883 he moved to Florence, where he has been actively engaged in the practice of medicine ever since.
