HOGGINS, a prominent farmer, stock raiser and trader, was May 13, 1855, and is the eighth of a family of twelve children born to Wesley and Rebecca (Shawhan) Hoggins. Wesley Hoggins was a native of Kentucky, a merchant of Covington, and a farmer in Kenton County, Ky., and was also a cattle commissioner. John S. Hoggins was reared on a farm, and received a common-school education. He chose farming as an occupation, and now owns 800 acres of land in Illinois. He was elected representative from Boone County in May, 1887, receiving the largest Democrat majority ever received in Boone County.
