Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Bath County HORD SHARPE, M.D., a leading practitioner of Bath County, Ky., was born in Sharpsburg, Ky., January 21, 1846, and is a son of William S. and Mary (Hord) Sharpe. William S. Sharpe was born in Bath County, Ky., in 1817. He was a prominent physician and practiced his profession in Sharpsburg for thirty-three years. He served as surgeon in the Federal army three years and died April 19, 1876. He was a son of Richard Sharpe, also a practicing physician of Bath County. The latter was a son of Moses Sharpe, a native of Virginia, who was an early settler of Bath County, where he laid out and named the town of Sharpsburg. Mrs. Mary Sharpe was born in Mason County, Ky., a daughter of Joseph Hord. Hord Sharpe was educated in the common schools at Frankfort, Ky., and at Hillsboro, OH. In 1867 he commenced to read medicine and attended lectures at the University at Louisville, Ky., where he graduated in March, 1872. November 22, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Fannie B. Colegrove, of Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of B.H. and Laura (Sanders) Colegrove. Two children have blessed this union, Belah and Susie L. Mrs. Sharpe is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
