GOODPASTER, a native of Owingsville, Ky., was born November 9, 1857, and is a son of Levi and Jane (Allen) Goodpaster. Levi Goodpaster, also a native of Bath County, Ky., was born in 1821, and when twelve years of age went to Owingsville and clerked in a store for a number of years. He then engaged in the mercantile business in Owingsville, where he remained until 1863, when he moved to Greencastle, Ind., and merchandised one year. He then returned to Owingsville, where he established a bank in 1866, which he conducted until his death in 1876. He was a member of the Christian Church, and a son of Joseph Goodpaster, native of Virginia, who moved to North Carolina and subsequently to Bath County, Ky., where he died in his 82d year. Mrs. Jane Goodpaster was born in Nicholas County, Ky., and is a daughter of Granville S. Allen, a native of Virginia. H.S. Goodpaster waS educated in Owingsville, Ky., served as deputy sheriff of Bath County three years, when he engaged in merchandising for a period of four years. Upon the death of his father he went into the bank as cashier, which position he has since retained. J. B. Goodpaster is now president of the bank, which has a capital of $40,000, and the average deposits amount to from $135,000 to $150,000. October 12, 1884, Mr. Goodpaster married Margaret L. Hamilton, of Bath County, Ky., a daughter of George and Ellen (Ashby) Hamilton. One child blessed their union. A.B., now deceased. Mrs. Goodpaster died April 21. 1880, a member of the Presbyterian Church. H.S. Goodpaster is a member of the Christian Church, and in politics is Democratic.
