CATLETT, a practicing physician located at Owingsville, Bath County, Ky., was born in Gloucester County, Va., December 12, 1840. His father, J.W.C. Catlett, was born in the same county, and received his education at William and Mary's College, Virginia. He was quite a prominent attorney-at-law in his native county for many years, holding county offices. He was also a member of the State Senate of Virginia for three terms of four years each. He was a son of John Catlett, a native of Gloucester County, Va., and a grandson of John T. Catlett, a native of England, who immigrated to America at an early date and settled in Virginia, where he lived and died. J.W.C. Catlett, about 1826, married Agnes Thruston, a native of Gloucester County, Va., a daughter of Robert Thruston, of the same county, and grand-daughter of Charles Minn Thruston, the Virginia Cavalier. Three children were born to their union, viz: Sallie B., Ann W. and John T., the first named deceased. The parents both died in Virginia. John T. Catlett received his education in the University of Virginia. About 1858 he commenced the study of medicine with his uncle, William Thruston, of Mathews Court-House, Va., and in 1861 graduated in medicine from the Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia, Pa. In 1861 he joined the Confederate army as surgeon of the Sixth Virginia Infantry, and served in the capacity until the close of the war. He then practiced his profession in Gloucester County, Va., until 1870, when he moved to Owingsville, Bath County, Ky., where he has since been actively engaged in practice. March 11, 1874, he married Elva Ewing, daughter of Judge A.J. and Liddia H. (Conner) Ewing, of Bath County. To this union have been born three children: Agnes, Robert and Lucile.
