Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Bath County JOSIAH ARRASMITH, a farmer and stock-grower of Bath County, Ky., was born in that county, December 25, 1834. His father, Massey Arrasmith, a native of Bourbon County, Ky., moved to Bath County when small, about 1812, where he followed farming all his life. He was a son of William Arrasmith, a native of Virginia, who settled in Bourbon Country, Ky., and was among the first in the State to manufacture plug tobacco; he was a Revolutionary soldier and a man of more than ordinary ability. Massey Arrasmith married Elizabeth Kearns, a native of Bourbon County, Ky., and a daughter of Tilman and Susan Kearns, Virginians, who came to Kentucky about 1815 and settled in Bourbon County, where they lived for several years and subsequently moved to Bath County, Ky. To Massey and Elizabeth Arrasmith were born seven children, only two of whom are now living: Josiah and his twin brother, John. Josiah Arrasmith was brought up to the farm, the pursuits of which he has followed all his life. In 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate army, Ninth Kentucky Cavalry, commanded by Gen. John Morgan, where he served until Morgan's capture. He was then placed under Gen. Joseph E. Wheeler, serving with him until the close of the war. He then turned his attention to agricultural pursuits, which he has followed successfully ever since, on the farm of 134 acres near Bethel, Bath County, Ky. His farm is well improved and in a high state of cultivation. In November, 1867, Mr. Arrasmith married Miss Carrie Badger, a daughter of Nelson and Eliza Badger, of Bath County. To this union has been born one daughter, Mattie. Mr. Arrasmith is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and for many years has been Master of Newton Lodge, No. 286, at Bethel. In political matters he affiliates with the Democrats. Arrasmith Kearns Morgan Wheeler Badger = Bourbon-KY VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/bath/arrasmith.j.txt
