Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. EDWIN VINCENT was born April 14, 1830, in Cumberland County, Ky., where he was reared to manhood. In 1876 he removed to Barren County and located at Hiseville, where he now resides. He was a member during the late war of Company D, Fifth Kentucky Cavalry, in which he enlisted October 4, 1861, and served until discharged in 1864 as first lieutenant of his company. He was present at the battle of Resaca, besides a large number of minor battles and skirmishes. His father, Edwin Vincent, Sr., was born about 1762, in North Carolina. He was a farmer by occupation, and was a son of Thomas Vincent, who was born in England. Edwin Vincent was twice maried; first, about 1792, to Margaret, daughter of John and Sarah McClannan. She was born about 1767, and bore her husband the following children: Nancy (Roe), John, Andrew J., Sarah (Claweell), Eligha, Mary (Cornelius), Thomas (deceased), Margaret (Monk) and Edwin. The last named has been twice married; first, October 9, 1851, to Julia B., daughter of William and Susan (Bow) Carver. By this union ten children were born. March 22, 1876, Mr. Vincent's second marriage took place with Nancy, daughter of John Dawson. They have no children. Mr. Vincent owns 185 acres of land and three houses; the latter are located in the village of Hiseville; besides which he has a partnership in a good store, well stocked with marketable goods, aggregating in value usually about $2,500 or $3,000. He has been marshall of Hiseville; is a member of the United Baptist Church, and politically is a stanch Republican.
