Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. JAMES E. MOSS was born April 22, 1846, in Green, now Taylor County, Ky. In 1877 he removed to Barren County, and located on the farm on which he now resides. His father, John C. Moss, was born June 11, 1823, also in Green County. He was a farmer, and was engaged largely in the milling business. He was a son of David C. Moss, who was born in Virginia in 1796, and at the age of four years removed with his parents to Green County, which was then a wilderness, the bears and wolves frequently disturbing the family at nights by their howling and fighting in the dooryard. David C. was a son of John Moss, who was also born in Virginia, and was of English descent. John C. Moss married, May 18, 1845, Sally, daughter of James Campbell, who was of Irish descent. From this union sprang James E., Margaret E. (Thompson), and David C. James E. married, February 11, 1869, Sally, daughter of Raphael and Matilda (Beam) Peterson of Taylor County. To them have been born Mary E. and Marion C. (twins), Charles C. and Walter S. Mr. Moss has almost entirely by his own labor become the owner of a fine farm of 123 acres of well improved land in good condition, besides an excellent house and all the conveniences to make home pleasant. He has been since he was sixteen years old a consistent member of the Methodist Church; was for several years a Good Templar, and has never spent a cent for whiskey as a beverage, and was nevr under its influence in his life. He is one of the stanch (sic) Democrats and solid business men of his section. Moss Beam Campbell Thompson = Green Taylor VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/barren/moss.je.txt
