McBEATH, son of Robert C. and Saraepta (Fleming) McBeath, was born August 5, 1858, in Wayne County, Ky. He received a good common school and academic education in youth, and at the age of eighteen began teaching in the public and select schools of the country. In 1880 he removed to Cameron, Clinton Co., Mo., where he followed his profession for two years. In 1883 he accepted a position in the Indianola (Texas) High School, which, later, he resigned to return to his native State. He then took a normal and scientific course at the Glasgow Normal School, and received his degree of B. S. in 1884. He then conducted for one year the Tompkinsville Academy, at the end of which time he resigned to assume the principalship of the Middleburgh Seminary, of which he still has charge. March 5, 1885, Prof. McBeath was united in marriage with Jennie Chism, a daughter of T. T. and Mary A. (Howard) Chism, both natives of Monroe County, where Mrs. McBeath was born December 12, 1865. The Professor and wife are members of the Reformed Church. He is a Republican.
