THE GORIN FAMILY. [Included in the biography of James Franklin]. Elizabeth (Betsy) [Franklin] married John Gorin. She resembled her mother more than either of her sisters. They had eleven children, all of whom lived to be men and women. Margaret (Peggy), their third daughter, died in her eighteenth year. Susan married Elijah Haydon; had several sons and daughters. She died at Alton, Ill., in 1833, of cholera. Their descendants are scattered in Missouri and Alabama. Mary (Polly) married Charles Harvey. She had several daughters and sons. Those that are alive live in Louisville, and the lower part of this state and Tennessee. Henry Gorin married Maria Whitaker; had one son and seven daughters. His son Wm. B., a doctor, lives in Missouri; a daughter, Mrs. McPherson, in Louisville, and the others who are alive live in Tennessee and Texas. John Gorin married Eliza Wilson. Their children are scattered. James W. Gorin, their son, lives at Bowling Green, Ky. Another son, Henry Franklin, married and died in Philadelphia, Pa., leaving several daughters, now living there we believe. Gen. John Gorin was born in Fairfax County, Va., May 15, 1763, and died in Glasgow, Ky., August 5, 1837. Entered the Continental Army at 13 years of age and fought to its end. Franklin Gorin married first, Louisa F. Underwood; had several children, all of whom are dead. Their eldest daughter, Maria Louisa, married Robert S. Bell, son of Wm. Bell, of Bell's Tavern. Mr. Bell left children, sons and daughters, one of whom is living, William F. Bell of Elizabethtown, Ky. By her second marriage with G. M. Proctor, she had three children, Eugene U., Louise G. and Mary Lurty - all living. He [Franklin] married the second time, Mrs. Fannie C. S. Boardman. They had five children, all dead except Mrs. Alice A. G. Blakemore, wife of Wm. H. Blakemore, Esq., of Oldham County, Ky. His last and present wife, Deborah Putnam Campbell, of Cherry Valley, N. Y., had three children - two living, a son and daughter. Sarah R. [sic - Sarah H(ensley)] married Dr. George Rogers. They had several sons and daughters, all of whom are dead except Judge John G. Rogers, of Chicago; L. P. Rogers, of Glasgow; Mrs. Margaret Wood, wife of Wm. J. Wood, of Barren County, and Mrs. Ann Snoddy, of Louisville, Ky. Judge Geo. C. Rogers left four children. Mrs. Martha Johnston, wife of Dr. T. B. Johnston, left two, a son and daughter. Mrs. Henrietta Smith, wife of Noah A. Smith, left four children, one son by her first husband, Thomas Pollard, and three by her last, George R., Junius and Wm. Smith. Betsey (Elizabeth) Gorin married H. P. Murrell. She died leaving a daughter who married --- Otis. She died leaving a daughter who married first --- Martin, and secondly, Maj. H. F. Ewing, of Pulaski, Tenn. She is now dead. Dr. James M. Gorin married Elizabeth R. Rodes, daughter of Clifton Rodes of Barren County. He died without issue. Thomas Jefferson Gorin married Mary Ann Bowman. They had -- children, all dead except four, Mary Elizabeth, who married D. M. Ashby. They had six children - all living. Emma married H. C. Murrell; has four children living. Florence, unmarried; and Jas. E. Gorin married Mary Rogers, daughter of J. T. Rogers. Evalina Gorin married Dr. George Y. Shirley; she died after giving birth to one or more children. She, and all her children and husband are dead. Of the eleven children of John and Elizabeth Gorin, only two are living, Thomas J. Gorin and the writer, and of the husbands of the daughters and the wives of the sons, all are dead except the wife of F. Gorin.
