EVERETT was born March 9, 1835, in the southwestern portion of Barren County, Ky., where he still resides. He is the son of Ewell N. Everett, who was born in Barren County in 1804, and died February 28, 1863. Ewell N. was the son of Jesse Everett, a native of Virginia, who was born in 1775, and died in Barren County in 1847. Ewell N. married Sally, daughter of John Duff, of Barren County. She was born September 21, 1800, and died April 29, 1861, and their offspring are James S. E., Mary A (Terry and Stephens), Emily J. (Read), John Q. W. and Sallie (Pulliam). James S. E. Everett has been twice married; first, May 12, 1859, to Mary, daughter of John and Theresa (Russell) Totty, of Warren County. She died December 18, 1872, the mother of one child, Emily J. April 20, 1874, Mr. Everett married Victoria A., daughter of William and Susan (Beckham) Wright, of Barren County, who was born December 14, 1851, and to them have been born Susan E., Minnie L. and George E. Mr. Everett is a farmer, and owns 237 acres of productive and well cultivated land. He lost seven slaves by the late war. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M., and in politics is a Democrat.
