Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. CYRUS EDWARDS was born March 12, 1846, in Barren County, where he grew to manhood. In 1867 he moved to Colorado. There, and in Kansas and New Mexico, he remained for about five years, after which he returned to Barren County, where he has since resided. He has traveled considerably, having visited eighteen States and four Territories. He was a member during the war of Company L, Seventh Kentucky Cavalry, with which he served about twenty months as orderly sergeant, after which that regiment was consolidated with the Sixth, in Company F of which he served for three months, first as orderly sergeant and latterly as first lieutenant. He was in the battles of La Fayette, Hopkinsville, Calhoon, Resaca and West Point (Ga.), Selma, Plantersville and Scottsville (Ala.), besides a large number of minor battles and skirmishes. His father, Alexander Edwards, was born January 16, 1810, also in Barren (now Metcalfe) County, Ky. He was a farmer and for about fifty years a consistent member of the Christian Church. He was a son of Cader Edwards, who as born in Greenbrier County, Va., and came to Kentucky by way of the "Wilderness Route." He stopped for a time at Bryan's Station, after which he located for a time at Newport, (of which he is among the earliest settlers) and in 1798 he came to Barren County, where he resided until his death, which occurred about 1855. He was a son of Cader Edwards, who was a native of Wales. Alexander Edwards has been three times married; first about 1829 to Judith Polston who bore him one daughter - Arminta (Ferguson). His second marriage occurred in 1833 to Julian Chism, who bore him nine children of whom Cyrus, George H., and Ermine Y. (Edwards) are still living. In 1860 his third marriage took place with Angelina Edwards. To them five children were born: Anna C. (Dickinson), James T., Biddy, Ellen and Alexander. Cyrus Edwards was married, December 20, 1877, to Cinderella, daughter of Nathaniel and Cynthia (Keller) Crain, the former being probably the oldest man now living in Barren County. Mr. Edwards is the father of three children: Louis, Florence and Eva. Mr. Edwards started almost at the bottom of the ladder of life, but by persevering industry has become the owner of a fine farm of well improved and productive land in a fine state of cultivation. He is not at present connected with any church orgnaization, is one of the best surveyors of his section, and politically is a Republican.
