Backroads of Barren County, KY, the newspaper articles of William Daniel Tolle, Sandra K. Gorin, Gorin Genealogical Publishing, copyright July 1991. By permission of the compilist. On the west side of the creek [Boyds Creek] and opposite the lands of the Morrison estate, Capt. WILLIAM DAY owned a large territory. He was a man well advanced in years when I first knew him. He was tall and vigorous, had a aguline nose, a gray head and walked erect. He owned several slaves and carried on farm work extensively. His wife before marriage was Sophia Strange. They raised a family of six girls and two boys. The oldest girl, Frances, married Mat Lasley, a Methodist preacher. He formerly lived at Hiseville, Barren County. Aftrward at Greensburg and finally in Louisville. Mary married Edmond Davis. He lived down the Nashville Pike about one mile beyond Skeggs Creek bridge from Glasgow. Virginia married Thomas Dickinson, Sr. of Glasgow. Caroline married Frederick Miller of Glasgow. Louisa married Henry Burks of the Barrens. Emily married a Harris of Louisville, Ky. Robert lived to be an old man. His last years were spent at the home of his brother-in-law, Henry Burks. He was never married. William, the youngest child, left Barren County in early manhood, and his whereabouts unknown to any of his people. (Have since learned that William belonged to the Regular Army; that he belonged to a regiment that was in the Custer Massacre on the Little Big Horn; and the presumption is that he was killed in that battle. His time had expired but was with the command according to my information.) The Captain Day homestead has long since past [sic] out of the hands of any of the family descendants. The lands have been cut up and sold to different parties. None of his children are living at this writing. Mary Davis was the last one to go. She died in Glasgow a few years ago. She had lost her eyesight and was quite feeble at death. The Day family were of the old Virginia stock, upright in all their dealings. They belonged to the Methodist Church and held their membership at the Bethel Church, about 5 miles southwest of Glasgow, until Boyds Creek Church was built in 1845 when they moved their membership to Boyds Creek Church.
