DAVID D. ALLEN, son of Robert D. and Mary Ann (Richey) Allen, was born 
in Cumberland County, Ky., August 8, 1838. Robert D. Allen was also born 
in that county in January, 1815; there he was educated, and in early 
life engaged in farming; later he moved to Texas, where he died March 9, 
1847, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; his widow is still 
living.  She was born in Cumberland County in December, 1816. David 
Allen, Sr., grandfather of David D., was a native of the "Old Dominion," 
and one of the early settlers of Cumberland County.  David D. Allen, at 
an early age, moved with his father to Putnam County, Ind., where he 
remained six years; thence to Guadaloupe County, Tex., where his father 
died, and some time after that event he returned to Cumberland County, 
Ky., with his mother. He received a good education, and on attaining his 
majority became a salesman in a dry goods store at Burkesville, which 
position he held until the outbreak of the civil war. In 1868 he came to 
Barren County, where he has since been engaged in farming and dealing in 
tobacco. He was united in marriage, October 18, 1864, with Mary L. Nunn, 
daughter of Washington and Mary Nunn, natives of Cumberland County, 
where Mrs. Allen was also born October 1, 1847. To Mr. and Mrs. Allen 
seven children were born: Clara, Ettie, Annie, Charles R., Catherine, 
John Roger, and Ruby Leslie. Mr. Allen is a member of the Masonic 
fraternity, in which he has passed the degree of Master Mason. 
Politically he is a Democrat.  His wife is a consistent member of the 
Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
