Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Anderson Co. SAFFELL FAMILY. Among the pioneer families of Anderson County was the Saffell's, Joshua having settled in 1790 about three miles southwest of Lawrenceburg. He married for his first wife a Miss Baker, who died in 1804, leaving four children: John, Baker, Samuel and Elizabeth. For his second wife Mr. Saffell married Miss Middleton, of Virginia, and to this marriage five children were born: James, Jacob, William, Nancy (Mrs. Trower) and Joshua. Mr. Saffell was a farmer, and owned 1,000 acres. Samuel Saffell was born in 1804 in Anderson County, and married Miss Sarah Bell Woods, daughter of Joseph Woods. He died May 26, 1875, and his wife December 12, 1872. She was born in 1804. They had nine children: Thomas (deceased), America, Ellen, (deceased) Willie (deceased), Sarah Bell (Mrs. C. W. Montgomery, deceased), Calpernia, William B., James T. and Patelina. William B., son of Samuel Saffell by this marriage, was born August 28, 1843, in Anderson County; received his education in the common schools; in 1868 was appointed United States revenue store-keeper for Anderson County, and held the position until 1874, when he engaged in business as a wholesale whisky [sic] dealer. Mr. Saffell is also general manager for W. H. McBrayer, distiller, and is engaged extensively in farming some 500 acres, which are located upon Fox Creek, one-half mile from Lawrenceburg. Mr. Saffell is vice-president and director the Lawrenceburg Bank, and a Master Mason of Anderson Lodge, No. 90, of Lawrenceburg. He married in 1883 Miss Frankie Bond, daughter of Hon. W. F. and Susan (Hanks) Bond, and has two children: Mary B. and Franklin McBrayer.
