DR. CHARLES A. LEATHERS is a son of Valois and Rozema (Stoddard) Leathers,
natives respectively of Kentucky and Illinois.  The Doctor's paternal
great-grandfather, Nicholas Leathers, was a native of Orange County, Va.,
was born in 1775, settled near Versailles, Woodford County, and was married
to Miss Fannie Moore in the year 1795.  The Doctor's paternal grandfather
was John Leathers, a native of Anderson County, born in the year 1802.  He
married Miss Rosie Burgan, and their children were Nicholas, Jourdan,
Valois, James, John and Sallie (Mrs. Thomas McMurry, deceased) and Jennie
(Mrs. S. P. Routt).  Valois Leathers was born in Anderson County in 1828,
removed to Illinois in 1848, remained there three years, thence to
California in 1851, but returned to Anderson County, Ky., in January 1865,
where he died in September, 1879, leaving seven children: Charles A.,
James V., Emma J., Eugene M., Rosie E., Frederick and William V.  Dr.
Charles A. Leathers was born in California January 12, 1860, but received
his early education in Anderson County, Ky.  In the fall of 1876 he
entered the Kentucky Military Institute; graduated in the spring of 1879,
and commenced a study of medicine under Dr. J. L. Pope, of Chaplin, Nelson
Co., Ky., graduated from the University of Louisville, Ky., and commenced
practice in the spring of 1881 at Leathers' Store postoffice in Anderson
County.  In June, 1883, he located at Lawrenceburg, and was appointed
member of the county board of health; was elected jail physician in 1886.
November 22, 1882, he married Miss Alice, daughter of William J. and
(McGinnis) Waterfill, and is the father of one daughter, Ruby H.  The
Doctor is a member of Anderson Lodge, No. 90, F. & A. M., also a member
of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon college fraternity.
