Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Anderson Co. DR. JOHN W. GILBERT was born June 6, 1851; is the son of James and Elizabeth (Stone) Gilbert, and grandson, on the maternal side, of Robert and Hannah (Cochran) Stone. He was reared in Spencer County, Ky., and at the age of twenty-one commenced the study of medicine under his brother, Dr. R. S. Gilbert. He graduated from the Louisville Medical College in 1874, and in the same year located at Fox Creek, in Anderson County, and at once engaged in the practice of his profession. In the fall of 1878 he removed to Lawrenceburg, where he enjoys a large and remunerative practice. February 1, 1876, he married Miss Aileen Kavanaugh, daughter of Charles and Emrin (Lillard) Kavanaugh, and this union has been blessed with four children: Emrin, Kavanaugh, John W. and George H.
