Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Anderson Co. MISS LUCY BUSH was born in 1840, near Lawrenceburg, in Anderson County. She is a granddaughter of Mathew Bush, who married Miss Sallie Mueix, who owned the estate now in possession of our subject. Her father, Izarel B. Bush, was the only son of Mathew and Sallie (Mueix) Bush and married Mary Sullivan, a daughter of Archibald and Lucy (Fox) Sullivan, of Virginia, in 1831. He died in 1869. They had eight children: John (deceased), Daniel (deceased), Areanna (Mrs. Sidney Robinson, deceased), Lucy, Sarah (Mrs. Wm. Saffell, living), Tarmesie (deceased), Philip (deceased), Richard (deceased). Miss Bush was educated at the Georgetown College and at the death of her father she inherited the family mansion and an estate of 300 acres. In 1850 her father built the present mansion, and the open hospitality of its owner gave it the name of "Welcome Hall" and for many years it was the most noted place for miles. The pleasure grounds contain some twenty acres, laid off in walks and drives, some of them being a mile in length; situated in the grounds was a lake of some three acres. The house is a large, square, frame building, which is reached through a drive of an eighth of a mile between two rows of large pine trees. The grounds were also laid out in flower beds of choice plants. He had planted a peach orchard of 1,000 trees and large quantities of other fruits of the choicest kind; was also extensively engaged in raising fine horses. The estate before his death comprised of 900 acres. Miss Bush has at present sixteen of the old family servants (former slaves), for whom she provides a home, many of them being too old to work.
