He was killed in action in Vietnam.
He was driving a Armoured Personnel Carrier when it hit a land mine.

  Born in Hickman, Kentucky on the 28th day of July 1948, the son of Thomas Joseph Kemp and Josie Lucille Terrett. He attended Western School in the Sassafras Ridge area, and graduated from Fulton County High School in 1965. He joined the U. S. Army in May of 1965 and was sent to Fort Knox. When he was killed, he had only been in Vietnam for 5 weeks as a member of Troop C, 1st Squad, 11th Armoured Cavalry. He is buried in the Hickman City Cemetery, Hickman, Kentucky.
