Ashbel Russell Welch
was a cousin of William Scott Bryan and grandson of Asbel Welch of Lamberville,
New
Jersey. Ashbel was a younger
brother of Sylvester Welch. Irma was a daughter of Louisa Welch and
Leopold
Labrot. Her brother Sylvester
Welch Labrot was a bridge and tunnel engineer with the L & N Railroad
and later
founded the American Creosote
Works and became an avid horse racer. William Scott Bryan moved to
New
Orleans to take a position
in Labrot's creosote business in 1904.
Col. Dr. John Mitchell
Scott was the first Sheriff of Franklin County. Portraits of Catherine and
John were
painted by a prisoner
convicted of murder. The portrait of John Mitchell Scott is still in
the family. The
portrait of Catherine was
sold at auction in the 1970's and its' location is unknown. Copies
made by
W. S. Bryan in the 1890's
still exist.
Arabella Scott (1),
after the death of her husband Sylvester in 1852, sold her home on Versailles
Road and
moved to the corner of Clinton
and Ann Streets where she built 4 additional houses in the former garden
for 4 of
her 5
daughters.
