Sylvester Welch

Sylvester married Arabella Scott Davis, a widow. She was the daughter of Col. (Dr.) John Mitchell and Catherine Ware Scott. Sylvester
moved to Frankfort in the late 1830's to take the job of Chief Engineer for the State of Kentucky to plan and supervise the consturction
of navigation locks on the Kentucky River. Prior to arriving in Kentucky, he had successfully completed the Allegheny Portage Railroad
in Western Pennsylvania which allowed canal boats to be raised via inclined planes on railroad flatcars over the Allegheny Mountains
east if Kentucky, particularly on the Lexington and Frankfort line.

Arabella and Sylvester Welch had five daughters. Arabella Welch built four houses, on land that had been the garden, behind the house
on Clinton and Ann Streets for four of her five daughters.

Arabella "Tennie" Scott Welch, who married Edward Payson Bryan. Bryan came to Frankfort during the Civil War as a telegrapher for the
L & M Railroad. He later became station Agent in Frankfort until being promoted in 1890 to Superintendant of Terminals in Louisville.
E. P. Bryan raised his family at Glen Mary on the Versailles Road not far from Jett.

Mary "Polly" Welch, married Edward H. Hensley. E. H. was one of the people who persuaded Robert Burns Wilson to move to Frankfort.
Polly and E. H. had a daughter, Arabella "Belle" with whom Wilson was in love at one time. Belle Hensley married Charles Elwood
Colahan, who at one time was head of the Naval Acadermy at Annapolis. Belle's brother, Rev. Alex. Hensley gave the funeral for Wilson,
when he was buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.

Louisa Welch married Leopold Labrot, owner of Labrot and Graham Distillery

Katie Welch married A. J. Grant
