Jeremiah Weldon South

In 1859, Jerry South moved from Breathitt County
to Franklin County to become the Keeper of the
KY State Penitentiary. He served two terms as Keeper
of the Penitentiary - (1859-1863) and (1870-1880).

On April 15, 1880, Jeremiah Weldon South dropped
dead on the Senate floor in the Old State House in
Frankfort, Kentucky.
