He was the husband of Della Chaney Alcorn, son of Hume and Maude Wells Alcorn, father of several children and grandchildren, brother of Cornelia Hale, Mildred Kelly, Mary Sparks, Juanita Middleton, Delma Fox, Tom, Jim, Ray and Garry Alcorn. Burial was at Indiana.

 

Andrade, Billie C. 59, of Newton, N.C., died June 7. She was the daughter of Beatrice Rose Wagers and the late Willie Wagers. Burial was at Turpin Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Arthur, Martha Luceille 76, Madison County, Ky. died Oct 27. She was the wife of Ray N. Arthur, daughter of the late George and Florence Baker Dixon, mother of Wallace, William, Jeffery and Tom Arthur, sister of Alice Bell, Georgeann McGee and the late Janice DeSantis and Inez Durbin. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Estill County, Ky.

 

Arvin, David Leon 38, Berea, Ky. died Nov 14. He was the husband of Charlotte Jean Martin Arvin, son of Beverly and Marinda Arvin, father of Morgan E. Moss and Robert Moss, brother of Carolyn Adams. He was in the Army Reserves. Burial was at South Irvine Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

G. and Sarah Harris Arvin, father of Sarah Arvin, Beulah Gravely, Vivian Young, Daisy Edwards, Edith Young, Dinnah Wilson, Foster Arvin and the late Tracy and Jim Arvin, brother of Lillian Harris, Nathaniel, William and Trefford Arvin. Burial was at Hunt Cemetery, Barnes Mountain.

Beckley, Chadwick Miles "Chad" 26, died Aug. 14. He was the son of Lloyd W. and Sue Carol Taylor Beckley, brother of L. W. Beckley, grandson of Omer and Grace Beckley, W. C. and Lelia Taylor. Burial was at Donnelly Cemetery, Crystal, Ky.

 

Benton, Dorothy 85, formerly of Louisville, Ky., died July 18. She was the wife of Thomas "Tommy" B. Benton, daughter of the late W. T. and Ibba Rose Farmer, mother of Susan Ishmael and Kathy Ammerman, sister of Katherine Johnson. Services were held in Lexington, Ky.

 

Bicknell, Floyd W. 87, Franklin, Ohio, died Sept. 11. He was the husband of Vivian Webb Bicknell, son of the late James and Lillie Kindred Bicknell, brother of the late Inez White, Avis Richardson, Elon Gentry, H. L., Leonard, Estill, Clark, and Clyde Bicknell. Services were in Ohio.

 

Bishop, James H. 70, Covington, Ky., died Aug 1. He was the husband of Cleo Miller Bishop, son of the late Harvey and Letha Bishop, father of J. D. and Danny Bishop, Brenda Mullins, Arlenda Bishop and Kathy Arrowood, brother of Sarah Frady, Lloyd and Seldon Bishop. Burial was at Southgate, Ky.

 

Brandenburg, Paula Jean 33, died June 16. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Nancy Riddell Willis, mother of Sydney F. Brandenburg, Jacob A. Brandenburg and Brian Riddell sister of Connie Curry and Paul J. Willis and the late Gregory Willis. Burial was at West Irvine Cemetery.

He was the husband of Betty Henry Brandenburg, son of the late Fred C. and Beulah Tuttle Brandenburg, father of Wendell Glynn and Ricky Lynn Brandenburg, brother of Mary K. Hardy, James B. Brandenburg and the late Anita Mansfield, Bernice Barnett, Naomi, Hershall, Morris and Ivas Brandenburg. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and a former sheriff of Estill County. Burial was at Gould Cemetery.

 

Boone, Lillian 60, Jeffersonville, Ky. died April 1. She was the daughter of the late Cleve Jones, mother of Penny Brooks Little, Bobby Wayne Sloane, Phillip and Charles G. Jones, sister of Tootsie Scott, Mattie Warner, Stanley, Kenneth, and Gary Jones. Burial was at Salem Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Brake, Phillip Ireland 82, Damascus, WV., died April 8. He was the husband of Annabelle Scott Brake, widower of Elaine Law Brake, son of the late Wilbur Elisha and Amy Lessie Lireand Brake, father of Judith Ganley, Kenneth L. Brake and Bonnie Macey of Irvine, Ky. Services were at WV.

 

Brandenburg, Diana Faye died Sept 6. She was the wife of Langley Brandenburg, daughter of the late Archy and Stella Black Chaney, mother of Diana Sue, Shirley Irene and Connie Jane. She had four brothers and five sisters. Services were at Miamisburg, Ohio.

 

Brandenburg, Randall Doug 47, died March 29. He was the husband of Nancy Clem Brandenburg, son of Virginia Sewell Brandenburg Stone and the late Leondas Brandenburg, father of Rebecca S. Jr. and Tom Broaddus, sister of Louelle Seale, Jeanette, Paul B. and Charles Hughes. She was a former board member of the Estill County Historical & Genealogical Society. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

 

Bryant, Ouida 89, Lebanon, Ohio, died Feb 14. She was the daughter of the late Taylor and Maude Daniel Muncie, former wife of the late Emerson Bryant, mother of Paul Bryant, sister of Clark Muncie. Burial was at Ohio.

 

Cain, Pauline 81, died Nov 1. She was the widow of L. E. Harless and Phillip Cain, daughter of the late Ora B. and Anna Belle Richardson Turpin, mother of Linda Broaddus and the late James O. and Larry Turpin, sister of Donald Turpin and the late Chester Turpin. Burial was at Turpin Cemetery.

 

Canter, Lucille 68, Versailles, Ky. died Dec 3. She was the wife of Cecil Canter, daughter of the late Robert and Lottie Crouch Gentry, mother of Harold, Donnie and Lester Canter, sister of Robert Gentry. Burial was at Cobb Hill Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Chester, Daisy L. 82, of Waynesville, Ohio, died June 21. She was the widow of C. H. Chester, daughter of the late Robert L. and Callie Dickerson Thacker, mother of LaVonna Stathes, Keith and Douglas Wagner, Sister of Mildred Green, Elsie Johnson, Howard, Kenneth, James and Glen Thacker. Burial was at Cobb Hill Cemetery.

 

Cole, Jonathan Maleki died at birth Sept 22. He was the son of Dodie Marie and Dewey Elden Cole Jr., grandson of Lillian and the late Phillip Eugene McCoy, Dewey Elden and Geraldine Cole. Services were at Stanton, Ky.

 

Colwell, Freda L. 78, Davison, Michigan, died Sept 7. She was the daughter of the late William "Bill" and Emma Rice Tuttle, mother of Sheila Rison, Irvine, Ky., and Steven R. Colwell, sister of Helen Ruth Spicer and the late William Tuttle Jr. Services were in Michigan.

 

Cooper, Roy Jefferson, Jr. 76, Versailles, Ky., died Sept 1. He was the husband of Norma Aleeta Bush Cooper, son of the late Roy J. and Grace Mastin Cooper, father of Lisa Maffett and Clay Cooper, brother of Wilma Sharp, Lois Blair, Eureka Drake, Edward "Corky" Cooper and the late Lillian Thacker and Amile Thomas. He was a U. S. Navy veteran. Burial was at Camp Nelson Cemetery.

 

Cox, Isaac 75, died April 9. He was the widower of Norma Jean Harris Cox, son of the late John and Carrie Messer Cox, father of Brenda Arvin, Opal Ross, Anna Lee Freeman and the late Mayfra and Boliver Cox. Burial was at Hunt Cemetery.

 

Cox, Jesse W. 82, Harrodsburg, Ky. died Jan 29. He was the husband of Evelyn White Cox, son of the late Arthur Cleve and Lourinda Bottoms Cox, US Army veteran of WWII, father of 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Burial was at Mt. Washington, Ky.

 

Cox, Perry E. 74, Richmond, Ind, died April 22. He was the husband of Louise Sparks Cox, widower of Ella Jean Johnson Cox, son of the late Reuben and Ida Mae Durbin Cox, father of Lisa Sylvin, Rhonda Nobbe, Beckie Duncand, and 11 brothers and sisters. Burial was at Indiana.

 

Cox, Roy Edward 58, Richmond, Ky, died June 3. He was the husband of Madeline Scenters Cox, son of Grace Chamberlain Cox and the late Roy Cox, father of Ladonna J. Dawes, Roy D. and Anthony E. Cox, brother of Cleta Richardson, Wilma J. Richardson, Ruth Harrison, Sue, Joyce and Darrell Cox. Burial was at Madison Co, Ky.

 

Crawford, Rubye R. 92, formerly of Irvine, Ky., died July 7. She was the widow of J. Harold Crawford. He was the manager of the local telephone office. She was the daughter of the late John and Nancy West Roberson, mother of Bobbye Joyce McConkey. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, West Irvine, Ky.

 

Curry, Everett 75, Berea, Ky. died April 2. He was the son of the late Jesse and Lillian White Curry, father of Patty Gallaway, Gina McMenama, Gary E. and Bobbie E. Curry and the late Glenn Curry, a long time friend Paula Neal. Burial was at Lee County.

 

Daughtery, Pauline 68, Richmond, Ky. died March 26. She was the wife of Bernard Daughtery, daughter of the late Odu and Sudie Noland Billings, mother of Paula Strong, Kathy Shanks. Burial was at Richmond Cemetery.

She was the widow of Elbert Dixon, daughter of the late James and Faye Kirby Riddell, mother of Verlin Edwards, Wilma Young, Jerri Center, Darrell and Arthur Dixon and the late James E. Dixon, Yvonne Dixon and Cathy L. Worley, sister of Scottie Neal, Louis Babb, Cornell, Kenneth, Elmer and Russell Riddell. Burial was West Irvine Cemetery.

 

Duke, William Hayden, Sr 85, Richmond, Ky., died Sept 10. He was the husband of Bonnie Means Duke, son of the late John and Elizabeth Durbin Duke, father of Elsie M. Sowder, Mary J. Workers, Elizabeth Cole, William Jr., Earl, Michael, Joseph, Randy Duke and the late Victoria Mae Duke, brother of O. J., Shelby and Vernon Duke. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. Burial was at Sally poore Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Eaton, Rebecca Sue 52, died Sept. 21. She was the daughter of Edith Henderson and the late Bernard W. Henderson, mother of Ray, James, Eric and Eli Eaton, Willard Cherry, Bertie, Bonnie and K. D. Eaton, sister of B. W. Jr., James, Mark Henderson, Connie Nelson, and the late JoAnn Henderson. Services were at Elizabethtown, Ky.

 

Edwards, Jewel Dean 65, New Boston, Texas, died March 3. She was the wife of Lloyd B. Edwards, daughter of the late Virgil and Jean Marcum Spicer, mother of Lisa Black and Alan Edwards, sister of Judy Causey, Phyllis Rucker and Sherry Yeager all of Irvine, Ky. Burial was at Turpin Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Edwards, Virginia Louise 77, died July 5. She was the wife of James E. "Mickey" Edwards, mother of James R. Edwards. Services were at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at San Antonia, Texas

She was the widow of Edward Chester Embs, daughter of the late Cleveland and Ruth Hukle Walters, mother of Gerald Embs, Dorita Nowlin, Margie Worley, Freda Edens, Linda Burdette, Sandy Caudill and Wanda Muncie, sister of Rhoda Hamilton. Burial was at Winchester Cemetery.

Estes, daughter of the late Mackey and Ida Crowe Tipton, mother of Jesse, Cecil and David Estes, sister of Joe W. and Sam Tipton, Emma McIntosh, Anna Horn and Katherine Smith. Burial was at Tipton Cemetery, Millers Creek, Estill County, Ky.

 

Farmer, Rev. John W. 72, Lexington, Ky., died Sept 16. He was the husband of Bernice Farmer, father of Lynn Farmer and Karen Marshall. He was the former pastor of First Baptist Church in Irvine and was a U. S. Army veteran. Services were at Campbellsville, Ky.

 

Farmer, Sharon Glynn 55, died Aug. 28. She was the wife of Ernest Farmer, daughter of Lura Winkle Fowler and the late Park Wade Fowler, mother of Nancye Lee Combs and Stacye G. Woolery, sister of Argene Benton, Mildred Cox, Bobbie Sue Aines and Charlotte Roberts. Burial was at West Irvine Cemetery.

 

Faught, James Edward 75, Hazard, Ky. died Oct 6. He was the son of the late Paul and Lavinia Faught, father of Paul Faught, Melissa Pelfrey, Marita Faught and the late James Clinton Nolan, brother of Mattie Shouse and the late Lilly Patton, Minnie Shouse and Mary Chaney. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Estill County, Ky.

Flanery, Robert 67, Richmond, Ky., died July 1. He was the son of the late Robert D. and Rose Ella Tipton Flannery, father of William and James Flanery, Paulette Neal, Ailene Tackett, Christine Rose and Kimberly Flanery. Burial was at Tipton Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

Lunsford, sister of Lorene Dean, Florene Tuggle, and the late James, Gene, and Wallace Jones. Burial was at the Campbell Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Frisby, George Thomas 78, Richmond, Ky. died March 6. He was the husband of Martha Ellen Flanery Frisby, son of the late Thomas Jeffery and Minnie Mae Hays Frisby, father of Brenda R. Lodwick, Danny R. and Larry T. Frisby. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Burial was at West Irvine Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

Services were at South Irvine Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Gentry, W. D. 77, Waco, Ky., died July 23. He was the husband of Christine Turpin Gentry, son of the late Lloyd and Mamie Smith Gentry, father of Jerry, Eugene, Robby and Robin Gentry, brother of Lloyd Jr. and Paul Gentry. Burial was at Turpin Cemetery, Estill County, Ky.

 

Ginter, Delma Lee 74, April 5. She was the wife of Fred Ginter, daughter of the late John Whitney and Pearl Pearson Cox, mother of Rick Ginter and Hope Hughes, sister of Cathleen Hendricks, Mildred Wilson, Jean Whitener and Effie Clifford. Burial was at West Irvine Cemetery.

 

Gregory, Phillip Brian 22, died Aug. 24 in Georgia. He was the son of Frances Mae Estes Marcum and the late Phillip Ray Gregory, father of Daniel McBrayer, brother of Tonya Shepherd, Lynda Young, Tammy White, Kendra Marcum, Coy Ray Gregory and the late Marvin Ray Marcum, grandson of Mollie Estes. Burial was at Webb Hill Cemetery.

 

Griffin, William "Bill" David (Brother) 65, Erlanger, Ky. died Oct 15. He was the husband of Charlott Arney Griffin, son of the late James and Lillian Harris Griffin, brother of Margaret White Dalton. He served in the Kentucky National Guards and was a 1956 graduate of Irvine High School. Burial was at Erlanger, Ky.

 

Gross, Ronnie 57, died July 26. He was the husband of Drucilla Walling Gross, son of Otto Gross and Zetta Hoover Lamb, father of Michelle Hoover, Sherry Young and Ronnie C. Gross, brother of Donna Hurley, Phyllis Durbin, Sue Newton, Janet Smith and Gary Gross. Burial was at Gross Family Cemetery, Barnes Mountain.

He grew up in West Irvine, Ky, was the widower of Nancy Elizabeth Johns Slone, son of the late Robert and Nora Lou Yates Slone, father of 5 children. All his siblings preceded him in death. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII. Services were at Indiana.

She was the daughter of the late Bonnie M. and Nettie Gladys Hardy Sparks, sister of Bonnie "Connie" Sparks and Samuel "Patty" Sparks, and a special friend Calvin Plowman.
