Edgar Tipton Jr.

Edgar Tipton Jr. “Tip”, 75, of Middletown, passed away Sunday evening, May 2, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital.

He was born in Pitts, [Estill County], Ky., on Feb. 4, 1929, to parents Edgar “Tom” and Callie (McIntosh) Tipton Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Middletown. He married Joanne Riddell on June 1, 1956.

Tip served in the U.S. Army from November 1950, to November 1952, during the Korean War, and was a 50 year-member of the American Legion Post 218. He was employed at Armco Steel Corp. as a Hot Strip Mill roller, retiring in February 1991, with 44 years of service.

Mr. Tipton is survived by his wife, Joanne Tipton of Middletown; a daughter, Anne (Steve) Riley of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Timothy S. Tipton and Thomas E. (Jane) Tipton, both of Middletown; five grandchildren, Tim, Malcolm, Samantha, Brooke, and Tommy Tipton; a great-grandson, Logan Tipton; and two sisters, Christine Stewart and Imogene Morgan, both of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Tipton; a sister, Agnes Finney, and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Tipton.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Drive, with the Rev. Paul Riddell officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard.
