After
a COVID-related absence last year, the award-winning Soul of
Second Street Festival is back.
This year, the History Conference
will be held at the Boyle County Public Library, on 17 September
2021, from 1pm to 8pm. The topic is "Remembering Our
Communities", and will feature displays about every Black
community in the County, the community itself, schools, churches,
cemeteries, and people associated with that community. We
will also be gathering stories of those who grew up in each of the
communities, as far as possible.
The Festival itself will be held
at Constitution Square on 18 September 2021 from 3pm to 9pm, and
will feature food, socializing, and MUSIC! Spirituals, Jazz,
Motown, Soul, Pop!

Over 1,800 MAPPED burials in all FIVE sections of this
historic cemetery, plus another 1,600 burials for those who rest there,
but have no markings or gravestones. This is the first time in
Hilldale's 151 year history (first burial 1869) that the entire 7.5
acres of the Cemetery have been mapped.

African
Americans Interviews
Centre College professor, Dr. Jeffrey Shenton, with
whom we have been working for several months advises us that "The
oral history site from ANT 389 is up and running! . . . This site
represents the first draft of an ongoing project and this certainly can
and should change according to your suggestions and future data
collection."
