Rosie Nell Armstrong, 94, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the T.J.
Samson Community Hospital.
Born in Cumberland County, the daughter of the late John W. and Nancy Ellen Cary Bull. She was a member of the Scottsville Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter: Nancy Button and husband Freddie of Glasgow; one granddaughter: Kari Button of Glasgow; a sister-in-law: Orthie Bulle of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bedford Armstrong; an infant son, Willie Edsel Armstrong; two sisters, Hattie Anderson and Annie Huddleston; and five brothers, Clarence, Willie, Arnie, Jim and Clay Bull. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m., at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, Glasgow, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Maudie M. Scott Farner 72, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Bargersville and a former resident of Burkesville, KY. She was born March 30, 1933 in Burkesville, KY. Her parents were Milty and Thelma M. (Humphrey) Scott. She married Arthur Farner on May 2, 1985, he survives. Other survivors include three sons Jack Butler of Beech Grove, Malcolm Booher and Donnie Abney, both of Indianapolis; daughter Brenda Anderson of Burkesville, KY; brothers Thomas Scott of Burkesville, KY, David Scott of Maringo, IN; four sisters Mary Lee Pierce of Webster, KY, Sally Hall, Vina Escue and Verda Scott, all of Indianapolis; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Leslie Scott. A service were conducted on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, Hoopeston. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. "Mr. Huckleby died at 8:06 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at home. He was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Marrowbone, Ky., a son of Joseph H. and Ethel M. Anderson Huckleby. He married Marguerite S. Bogard on Aug. 29, 1959, in Rossville (IL). She survives. "Survivors also include two sons, Harlie Huckleby of Panama City, Fla., and Mark Huckleby of Hoopeston; three daughters, Debbie Watson and Janet Bivans, both of Hoopeston, and Connie Douglas of Rossville; two sisters, Elizabeth McMasters of Monticello, Ind., and Betty Lomax of Hoopeston; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. "Mr. Huckleby was a supervisor in the winding department at Schumacher Electric Corporation in Hoopeston for 35 years and retired in 1999. HUMPHREY, Thomas Burr At the stroke of twelve on Thursday, September 11,
1919, the tired heart of Judge Thomas Burr Humphrey, former County Judge
of Hemphill County, TX, ceased to beat. With the cessation of work on the
part of this mechanical portion of the body which is designed to provide
activity in the human form, there passes from the affairs of this life and
of this community one whose activities have been a blessing and a
benediction to Hemphill county and all those who have come within the
scope of Judge Humphrey's influence and personality. Born in obscurity in
Cumberland County, KY, to John and Susanah Humphrey, on December 17, 1846,
he grew to manhood subservient and obedient to his parents and then
launched upon a life that was destined to be eventful and that should
encompass extended interests and touch the lives of a multitude. He sought
and obtained a liberal education and was ever an advocate of advanced
intellect, being always more desirous of knowledge than of wealth. In
young manhood, he was united in marriage to Miss Nannie Triplett and to
this union was born nine children, five daughters and four sons all of
whom, together with the widowed mother survive. With his family he came to
Texas in the fall of 1883 and spent time time at Mobeetie (Fort Elliott)
in Wheeler County. It was probable early in the year 1185 that he moved to
Hemphill County where he was destined to perform a valuable and lasting
work. In those early days in the history of this county a home was
established on the Washita River near where the Gageby Creek enters that
stream. The signs of the home still exist and a draw coming from the north
bears the Humphrey name. In the vicinity also Judge Humphrey taught the
first school in Hemphill County and organized the first Sunday School
within Hemphill County. Early in life he adopted the Christian faith and
espoused the belief which is known as the Christian Church and lived a
quiet and devoted Christian life. He many years ago sought and obtained
entrance into and membership in the Masonic Lodge at this place and is
known and loved in fraternal circles for his strict adherence to the
sacred teachings of that order. For eight years T. B. Humphrey was County
Judge and ex officio county superintendent of Hemphill County s Public
School System and is will remember that he brought joy and delight to the
hearts of the school children as he went from place to place on his tours
of inspection, and what pride he felt in the development as a splendid
county system began to grow, from that little school that he first taught
in the county. Notwithstanding the responsibility of a large family and
hes interest and attention to things of a public nature this man prospered
in things material and for many years he has lived in retirement, in ease
and in comfort. His home was always a meeting place with pleasure and good
fellowship and best influences. The children were all present at the last
sad rites that were said over the boy in Heneritta where interment was
made. They are Mrs. Frank Cole of Hamburg, OK. E.S., Virgil, and John of
this city, who are engaged in commercial pursuits; the Misses Georgia and
Lil of Wichita Falls. Mrs. Karsetter of Henreitta, Leslie, a prominent
attorney in Wichita Falls; and Mis Ruth of Dallas. These together with the
widowed mother are left to mourn the departure of a father who was loving
and a husband who was devoted and kind. These are the facts about a man
who in his life formed the very foundation stone upon which the affairs of
out county were placed; who wiht the stroke upon twelve as the hour hand
had described one complete revolution upon the dial surrendered his soul
to God who gave it and became still and motionless in the embrace of
death, leaving us the wealth of his memory and delegating to us all future
responsibilities. And yet there are a thousand facts connected with this
career that have not and could not be mentioned, nor is it necessary that
they should except to emulate the splendid example that he has bequeathed
to us. To have lived a life crowned with financial success, intelectual
attainment, public preformance; to have reared a family who are
distinguished for uprightness, industry and ability; and to have been
permitted in the twilight to review a life so full of usefulness and
achievement and then in the fullness of years to have a peaceful passage
into that Upper and Better Kingdom, certainly placed the stamp of God's
approval on a noble man. Judge Thomas Burr Humphrey was 72 years, 8 months
and 24 days old when the angel came to smile away his immortal spirit,
having passed the Biblical span of three score and ten. We mourn wtih his
family in this sad hour, because humanity cannot sever these ties with
sorrow, but there is a consolation in his life that leads us to the
perfect assurance that a Heavenly career has begun where sorrow and

JOHNSON, Alpha Omega Wells , 98, of Brownsville, died
Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at a nursing home in Bowling Green.
The Cumberland County native was a school teacher in Cumberland County one-room schoolhouses for several years, a bookkeeper for the Brownsville Deposit Bank and the oldest member of the Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, James Howard Johnson and wife Ruth of Irvine, Calif., and William Sid Johnson of Bowling Green; one sister, Maxine Jones of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Ann Doyle, Debra Johnson and William Alan Johnson; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sydna Shufelt of Brownsville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Patton Funeral Home, Brownsville Chapel, with burial in the Donelson Cemetery in Celina, Tenn. Glasgow Daily Times 1-02-06

Mrs. Janice Marie Milby Whitlow, daughter of the late Aaron Wayne Milby and Mary Clarice Davidson Jesse of Breeding, Kentucky, was born on Wednesday, July 28, 1964 in Cumberland County and departed this life on Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg. She was 41 years, 3 months and 6 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church, a machine operator for Topps Safety Apparel and a member of the National Guard Family Support Rediness Group. She united in marriage to Rodger Mark Whitlow on December 31, 1996 who survives. Also surviving are two sons: Sgt. Curtis Aaron McKibben of Iraq and Derek Allen McKibben of Greensburg; one daughter: Megan Brooke Whitlow of Campbellsville; step-father: Bob Jesse of Breeding; one grandchild: Alliona Renee McKibben of Campbellsville; two sisters: Sheila Clarice Boots of Lebanon and Beatrice Ann Judd of Monticello; a step-brother and step-sister: Wendell Jesse and Pam Deweese both of Edmonton; a mother-in-law: Maurine Judd Whitlow of Greensburg and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services for Mrs. Janice Marie Milby Whitlow will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in the New Salem Cemetery.
