Jimmie Roar (1933-2007)

Jimmie Roar, 73, of Wurtland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Mr. Roar was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Grahn, Ky., a son of the late Walter and Nina Gillum Roar. He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Cas Roar; two grandchildren, Kevin M. Wiley and Erica D. Spears; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew R. Wiley, Cody Ray Roar and Kristi Richardson.

He was a retired crane operator for AK Steel, a U.S. Air Force veteran and attended Grace Independent Church in Greenup, Ky.

Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth Marshall Roar; nine daughters, Debra (Konnie) Savvas of Ramseur, N.C., Rita (Todd) Fyke of Naples, Fla., Nina Brenner of Bradenton, Fla., Belinda Roar of Waverly, Ohio, Terry (Keith) Fitzwater of Reidsville, N.C., Sheila (Roger) Smith of Pedro, Ohio, Kayce (Vallace) Rowe of South Shore, Ky., Jamie (Greg) Adams of Greenup, and Christy Roar of Bradenton; a stepdaughter, Loretta (Edward) Stevenson of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; a son, J.R. Roar of Wurtland; four sisters, Mary Mays of Warren, Ohio, Roberta Meadows of Wurtland and Loretta Clark and Rita Workman, both of Flatwoods, Ky.; a brother, Walter “E.W.” Roar of Wurtland; three stepbrothers; three stepsisters; 31 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Pete Roar. Burial will be in Roar Cemetery in Wurtland.

Military graveside services will be by American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
