Nellie Greene, 88

Nellie Mae Greene, 88, of Grayson, Ky., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at an Ashland, Ky., hospital.

She was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Greenup Co., Ky., to the late Willard and Minnie Fritz Riffe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Greene.

Surviving are son, Raymond Greene; daughters, Loretta Clifton, Deloris Dowdy and Ella Mae Billups; brothers Oscar and Walter Riffe; sister, Clotean Abdon; 
seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, with Larry Barrell officiating, 
and interment in Riffe Family Cemetery in Greenup County. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.


Ashland Daily Independent, Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 Nellie Greene 1915-2003 Nellie Mae Greene, 88, of State Highway 1773, Grayson, Ky., passed away November 21, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Willard and Minnie Fritz Riffe. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker and was a member of Brushart Christian Church. Her husband, Austin Greene, preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Raymond and Jannie Greene of Greenup County; three daughters, Loretta and James Clifton of Grayson, Deloris Dowdy of South Shore, Ky., and Ella Mae and Don Billups of Troy, Ohio; two brothers, Oscar and Bertha Riffe of Greenup, Ky., and Walter and Nora Riffe of South Shore, Ky.; one sister, Clotean and Follett Abdon of Lloyd, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Mitchell and Jovenna Clifton, Wanda and John Walker, Paul Austin and Kathy Dowdy, Phillip Dowdy, Gregory and Becky Greene, Donna Jo and Danny Neves and Crissie Billups; six great-grandchildren, Lacy Clifton, Dylan Clifton, Mandy Walker, Jonlyn Walker, Shawn Greene and Zackery Neves; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Riffe of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Willard and Hazel Riffe, Arnold and Bert Riffe, Paul and Alma Riffe, Clifford and Cora Mae Riffe and Raymond Riffe; two sisters, Irene and Orville Bear and Mundane and Asia Fannin; one son-in-law, Paul Dowdy; and one granddaughter, Angela Billups. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Larry Barrell officiating. Burial will follow in Riffe Family Cemetery in Zion Hill in Greenup County. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
