Thomas William 'Tom' Long 1912-2006

Thomas William 'Tom' Long, 93, of Ashland, widower of Wandeline Little Long, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Beech Hill, W.Va., the son of the late William Mason and Ethel King Long.

He attend Morris Harvey College in Barboursville, W.Va. In 1934, he went to work for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad as a second grade painter and retired in 1975 as assistant chief engineer. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the Bellefonte Country Club since 1943. He was an avid amatuer golfer and most proud of his ?15 holes-in-one.? He was club champion three times at Bellefonte Country Club, one time champion at Keswick Country Club in Charlottesville, Va., and one time champion at Sleepy Hollow in West Virginia. He was active in his church, community and civic groups.

He is survived by his son, Thomas William Long Jr. and wife Karen of Coral Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren, Sonja Williams and Thomas W. Long III of Florida, Lisa M. Long of Los Angeles; three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, all of Florida; two sisters, Izetta Long Arkle and Elizabeth Long; sister-in-law, Linda Little; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson and Dr. Paul Kleykamp. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
