John F. 'J.F.' Lewis (1918-2006)

John F. 'J.F'. Lewis, age 88, of Carter, Ky., passed away Thursday, May 25, 2006, in King?s Daughters Medical Center.

Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Carter, a son of the late Ollie Martin and Ollie Virginia Maggard Lewis.

He was the owner of the J.F. Lewis and Co. in Carter, a business started by his grandfather in 1890. 
He was an elder in the Carter Christian Church and a World War II Air Force veteran.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Nora Lena Poore, Kathleen Pinson and Jenny Compton.

His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Francine Garrison Lewis of Carter; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Tommy Colley of Grayson, Ky.; 
a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Julie Lewis of Carter; four sisters, Naomi Iovino of Richmond, Roberta Waggoner of Bellefonte, Ky., 
Glenna McGuire of Lexington, Ky., and Jo Alice Parsons of Ashland; six grandchildren, Jason Colley, Leigh Ann Bishop, Jonathon Lewis, Jacob Lewis, 
Jarod Lewis and Jasmin Lewis; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Bishop and James Colley.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Carter Christian Church with ministers John Sergent, Dave Braun and Terrell Webb. 
Burial will be in Lewis Family Cemetery in Oakland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carter Christian Church, c/o Lowell Messer, 1094 Zornes Branch, Grayson, KY 41143.
