Former Resident Dies Following Brief Illness - 

Mrs. Jessie Leadingham Whitt Carroll, 58, of Grahn, former owner of the Whitt Grocery in Ashland, 
died at 10 a.m. Thursday in King's Daughters' Hospital following a sudden illness.     

Mrs. Carroll, born Oct. 12, 1904, in Carter County, was the 
daughter of Jacob L. Leadingham of Ashland and the late Sarah Parsons 
Leadingham. She moved to Grahn four years ago.     

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Springs United Baptist Church by Elder 
Everett Slone and the Rev. Paul Diamond. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.     
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Lon Carroll; one daughter, Mrs. Paul 
Wheeler of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Darwin E. and Garland F. Whitt, both of 
Ashland; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel McFarland of Ashland and Mrs. Madge Wells of 
Anderson, Ind.; four brothers, Herbert, Duward, and Elba Leadingham, all of 
Ashland, and Gabe Leadingham of California, and five grandchildren.

Ashland resident who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Oak Springs 
United Baptist Church by Elder Everett Slone and the Rev. Paul Diamond. Burial 
will be in Ashland Cemetery. The body is at the Lazear Funeral Home where 
friends may call after 1 p.m. today.
