Dallas Horton
1927-2003
Dallas Horton, 75, of S. 14th Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003.
He was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Stirrat, W.Va., to Della Mae and John T. Horton.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Horton; sisters, Elizabeth and Myrtle; and brother, Joe and his first wife, Rosalee.
Surviving are his mother, Della Horton; sisters, Gladys Burton, Bonnie Felty and Brenda Pyles; brothers, Fred Horton, Gene Horton and Jim Horton, all of Grayson, Ky. He is survived in Carlsbad by his long time lady companion of 17 years, Dana Hager, and his extended family.
Mr. Horton was stationed in Germany during World War II. He was a member of the Eagles in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the military, he was a core driller and traveled extensively. He worked for and later managed Pennsylvania Drilling Co. in Carlsbad. He retired after 37 years with this company. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Grayson, and the Elks Lodge in Carlsbad. He loved to play golf, as well as antique and classic cars, enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. Mr. Horton was baptized at the First Church of Christ in Grayson. He left this world peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was a kind and generous man who will be missed. Mr. Horton would like his close friends and loved ones to celebrate his life by taking a day to enjoy themselves in his honor by playing golf, going fishing or just enjoying the beautiful mountains and rivers that he loved so much.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date. Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson is in charge of local arrangements.
