John E. Hay MADISON TOWNSHIP -- John E. Hay, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Oak Grove Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. The family would like to thank Oak Grove Manor for all of their wonderful kindness and support during John's lengthy stay. John was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Hitchins, Ky., to Alfred and Phoeba Barker Hay, and lived in the Mansfield area most of his life. John retired from Empire Detroit, where he worked as a processor. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Ardennes and Rhineland, and received three Bronze Stars for his meritorious duty to our country. On Oct. 2, 1948, he married his sweetheart, Ruth "Bobbie" Barber, and they shared over 58 years of wedded bliss. Surviving along with his loving wife Bobbie, are one son, Larry (Teresa) Hay of Spartanburg, S.C.; one daughter; Karen (Ronnie) Rogers of Flatwood, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jonathon, who they raised, and Misty (Hay) Brackett, both of Mansfield; one great-grandchild, Karissa Hay; four brothers; Orville, Alfred Jr., and Lawrence Hay, all of Kentucky, and Charles Ray Hay of Mansfield. John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Clarence Hay, and two sisters; Thelma Dickerson and Inez Ketchesin. Friends may be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Werner Funeral Services, 175 W. 3rd St., Mansfield, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Diamond Hills Cathedral, 500 Tingley Ave. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, with Pastor Earl Tackett officiating. John's faithful friend, the Rev. Mel Schroeder, will be reading the obituary. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park with full military honors performed by Richland County Burial Detail.
