September 23, 1940 Portsmouth Times William D. Haney, 46 of Carter City, Ky. died Sunday at Veterans hospital, Huntington where he was admitted. Death was attributed to tuberculosis. He was born Nov 29, 1893 at Carter City, the son of John and Mary [Brainard] Haney. Mr. Haney was a former at Grayson, but had not been able some time because of __. In 1929 he was married Sadie Burton. He is survived by his wife, children Gladys, William, Mary Opal at home. He also leaves his mother who__ at Carter City, and these brothers and sisters; Charles of Baileysville, W.Va., __, Earnest Haney, Mrs.__of Carter City, Ellis __ of Smith Creek, Ky. Lennis__ of Lucasville route 4, _____Haney of Wolf, Ky. and ______ Ramey of Portsmouth. Funeral services will be held at ___ Tuesday at the Plummer Cemetery near Carter City. Bill Haney was elected Carter County Jailer in 1930, 1934 and 1938. He died in office. His brother Hobert (Toop) Haney was elected in 1950, 1954, 1958 and 1962.
