Iva Hamon Melvin (1913-2006)

Iva Hamon Melvin, 92, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, 
in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility with her loving husband, family and minister at her bedside.

She was born Aug. 9, 1913, in Grayson, Ky., a daughter of the late Jasper and Mary Robinson Hamon.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Arthur Hamon, Eugene Hamon and Elton Hamon; and a sister, Ruby Brammell Clark.

She was a graduate of Morehead State Teachers College and a former schoolteacher in the Grayson, Ky., and Logan, W.Va., school systems. 
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Bellefonte Country Club and Continental Dance Club.

She enjoyed her Wednesday Bridge Club and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James H. Melvin Sr.; 
two sons, James H. Melvin Jr. and his wife, Paulette, and Paul Melvin and his wife, Anna, of Ashland; a sister, Mary Jo Carson of Camarillo, Calif.; 
seven grandchildren, James Melvin III, Jason Melvin, Christopher Melvin, Kevin Melvin, Jeffery Melvin, Mark Melvin and Amy Melvin; 
two great-grandchildren, Logan Melvin and Andrew Melvin; and six stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Gene Pillow. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
