Arbia “Jay” Griffith - 1921-2007

Arbia “Jay” Griffith, 86, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with Lord on Monday, May 14, 2007, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late Conn and Gussie Halterman Griffith.

He was a member of Coalton Community Church, retired from Great Lakes Steel in Detroit after 32 years of service and a World War II Army veteran 
who served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Bismarck Archipelago, Northern Solomons and Luzon battles. While in the Army, 
he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hamilton Griffith; two brothers, Ernest and Ira C. Griffith; and two sisters, Helen Griffith and Ona Griffith Hartman.

He is survived by a sister, Audrey Griffith Walcutt of Baltimore; and a brother, Bill Griffith of Grayson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by the Rev. James A. Porter.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

The East Carter Jr. ROTC will provide military graveside rites.
