Joe Paul Gipson (1936-2006)
Mr. Joe Paul Gipson, 70, of Fultz, Ky., on Dec. 5, 2006, walked into the arms of Jesus.
Mr. Gipson was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late Joseph P. Gipson and Ruth Ann Littleton Gipson.
He was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and faithful member of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ in Flatwoods, Ky. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957, serving time in Germany. During the 1970s, he established mission work with children at Oak Street Chapel Baptist Church in Flatwoods. He was an active member of the Flatwoods City Council from 1981 to 1984 and an employee of AK Steel, where he worked in the transportation and labor department from January 1959 until August 1998. In April 1996, he moved to Grayson, where he helped build and establish the New Life Victory Church in Pleasant Valley. He lived his life to the fullest, loving his God, his family, his farm and his animals.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Marie Napier Gipson, whom he wed in 1963; his three children, Billy Joe “B.J.” and wife Christene Gipson of Loveland, Colo., Lisa and husband Steve Potter of Ashland, Ky., and Lora K. Gipson, also of Ashland; his four grandchildren, Meghan Elyse and Aidan Chance Gipson, Tabitha Nicole and Jacob Nathaniel Potter; his two sisters, Mildred Jackson of Ashland and Geneva Mayberry of Winchester, Ky.; and his two brothers, John C. Gipson of Grayson and Charles E. Gipson of Flatwoods. In addition to his family, he is survived by many friends who loved him and will mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Gipson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Bob Stapleton and Lewis Davis. He will be laid to rest in Littleton/Carroll Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods and from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Sparks Funeral Home.
