Geneva Burton

1918-2006

Geneva Giles Burton, 88, widow of Richard Charles Burton, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.
Born July 18, 1918, in Scott County, she was the daughter of the late George Weber Giles and Azella Beatrice Tucker Giles. She graduated from Oxford High School in Scott County in 1936.
Richard and Geneva met as students at The Cincinnati Bible Seminary and were married Dec. 24, 1939. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage in 1999. Those 60 years were spent serving with her husband as they ministered to Christian churches and Churches of Christ in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. The final 18 years of ministry were with the Corinth Christian Church in Stamping Ground. She served as assistant librarian at The Cincinnati Bible Seminary from 1967 until her retirement in 1983. In May 1977, she received a bachelor of science degree from the Cincinnati Bible Seminary and was also a recipient of the Delta Aleph Tau award for distinguished service and scholarship from that institution. After moving to Grayson in 1996, she was a member of the First Church of Christ.
Surviving are her daughter, Dr. Rosalyn (Dr. Kail) Ruffner of Grayson; a son, Dr. Richard G. (Ann) Burton of Coralville, Iowa; four grandchildren, K. Daniel (Ann) Ruffner of West Chester, Ohio, Dr. Kari Ruffner (Chris) Shields of Grayson, Sara and Jane Burton Coralville, Iowa; one great-grandchild, Kate Ruffner of West Chester, Ohio; a sister, Martha June (Roger) Rankin of Grayson; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Giles of Georgetown and Rachel Ross of Fort Wayne, Ind; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, preceding her in death were a brother, Ralph Carlisle Giles of Georgetown and a sister, Constance Sowers of Sadieville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Roger Rankin and Dr. Kail Ruffner will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Grayson. Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 23, after 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
