Mansfield, Ohio Charles Raymond Gee, 86, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital, following a long illness. Charles was born March 13, 1919 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to Willie and Stella (Whitt) Gee. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during WWII as a Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class on the USS Hornet. He was involved with the Doolittle Raiders and had participated in the Battles of the Midway. Charles was a retired employee of Westinghouse, a member of Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church a life member of VFW Post 3494 and American Legion Post 16. Charles was a deacon in his church and a good Samaritan in helping neighbors and family. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Sue Lamberton of Westerville, Ohio and Brenda Kay (Don) Keller if Mt. Vernon, Ohio; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Billie (Gertie) Gee of Yipilanti, Michigan and Ted (Betty) Gee of Mentor, Ohio; one sister, Alice Joy (John) Buckler of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Enone Gearhart; one stepson, Albert F. Tackett, Jr.; one daughter, Donna High; one son-in-law, David Lamberton; and three brothers, Clayton Gee, Carl Gee, and Roy Gee. Friends may be received from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 from at Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church, 998 Laver Road, Mansfield. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bailey officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Richland County Veterans Burial Detail prior to the funeral service. As per Charles’ wishes, he will have a military burial in the Pacific Ocean, near the Solomon Islands, with his shipmates that went down with the USS Hornet on October 26, 1942 during the battle of Santa Crus Islands. Memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church. Werner Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
