James Flaugher Jr. (1937-2007)

James E. Flaugher Jr., 70, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Summit, a son of Laura Florence Flaugher of Grayson and the late James Edward Flaugher Sr.

He was retired from the AK Steel rigger shop, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of National Guard 201st Engineering with 30 years of service. Jim was a member of Willard Church of Christ and Willard American Legion and a retired member of the National Guard Association. He was a Carter County Board of Education member from 1976 to 1988 and a former basketball and baseball coach at Willard Elementary.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery “Bub” Flaugher; and five great-grandchildren, Derrick Michael Flaugher, Caleb Andrew Flaugher, Austin Bryant Flaugher, Brady Johnson and Chandler Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Ratcliff Flaugher of Grayson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Randy Lycans and Teresa and Mitch Marshall, all of Grayson; eight sisters, Marsha Crisp and Wanda Mann of Ashland, Marie Prichard, Ramona Salyer, Carla Sergent, Rita Jackson, Myra Ewing and Sheila Binion, all of Grayson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Betty Flaugher and Jamie and Tempest Flaugher, all of Grayson; three brothers, Ernest Flaugher of Mays Lick and Woodford Flaugher and Gregory Flaugher, both of Grayson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by John Sergent, minister. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
