Kentucky GenWeb projectThe Carter County Herald, May 19, 1932 Oldest Citizen of This County Dies MOTHER OF LARGE FAMILY LIVES TO BE ALMOST 100 YEARS OLD Carter county in all probability, lost its oldest citizen Wednesday morning of this week, when Mrs. Susan Stamper of Smokey Valley passed away at 1:00 a.m. For years she made her home with her son, W. L. (Dick) Stamper, where she was at the time of her death, which came as a result of pneumonia fever, after several days' illness. Mrs. Stamper was born July 14, 1834, died Wednesday morning, May 18, 1932 at the age of 97 years, 10 months and four days. Before her marriage she was Miss Susan Fannin, born and reared near where the end came. About the year 1850, she united in marriage with Mr. Jack Stamper, of the same neighborhood, to which union was born 12 children, four, Mary, John, Ellen and Malinda, having passed on before her to eternity many years ago. Surviving her are W. P. Stamper of Smoky Valley; George Stamper, San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Caroline Stallard of Williamstown, Kansas; James, Joe, and W. L. Stamper of Smoky Valley; Calvin Stamper of this city and Mrs. Bell Stone of Vanceburg. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. The funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, at the church at Bethel Cemetery, where the remains will be laid.
