Kentucky GenWeb projectLaverne Easterling MOREHEAD, KY. -- Laverne Easterling, 70, of 864 Fraley Drive died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He passed away after a brave battle with leukemia. Mr. Easterling was born January 3, 1934, in Carter County, Kentucky, and is a son of the late Joseph Gabe and Lena Dailey Easterling. Laverne was retired from General Motors in Mansfield, Ohio after working thirty-two years in the Mechanical Device Department. He served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Current as a rescue diver. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the U.A.W. Local $549, and the V.F.W. Post #9943 all in Mansfield, Ohio. Mr. Easterling was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his life long hobby of hunting and raising hunting dogs. He was a member of the National Cur and Feist Breeders Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Lonnie Easterling, one sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Andrew Tackett. Laverne is survived by his wife of forty-five years; Nadene Maggard Easterling. One son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Crystal Easterling of Mansfield, Ohio. One daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kevin Gerhart of Mansfield, Ohio. Four grandchildren, Sara Gerhart, Benjamin Gerhart, Anthony Easterling and Cole Gabe Easterling all of Mansfield, Ohio. One sister and brother-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Homer Parman of Grayson, Kentucky. One sister-in-law, Freda Easterling of Grayson, Kentucky. Many friends and other family member who will sadly miss him. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, officiated by Buford Crager, Moe Crawford and Mike Blankenship. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Memory Gardens in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Monday, and until time of service Tuesday at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
