Obituaries



Mrs. Thelma Armstrong Hillman, age 96, of Hillman Hollow in Lawton, went to her eternal home 
Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2015, at her residence.
  
She was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Frank and Mabel Moore Armstrong.
 
Thelma was the oldest living member of the Olive Hill United Methodist Church and retired from 
George Transfer, where she worked as a secretary to her husband, Chester Norton Hillman, 
until her retirement in 1979. She was a lover of poetry and would often quote poems to her family and 
friends. She loved to cook and would never allow anyone to leave her home hungry. She took great pride 
in her family, and spoke proudly of all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and 
great-great grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, 
Chester Norton Hillman; one son, Henry Watterson Hillman II; one daughter, Barbara Fuller; 
three brothers, Eldon Armstrong, Oval Armstrong, and Garell Armstrong; one sister, Lendell Tolliver; 
and two sons-in-law, James Wilhaucks and James Hillman.
 
Thelma is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Linda Hillman of Olive Hill; 
three daughters and a son-in-law, Roberta Hillman of Olive Hill, Yvonne and Tom Brown of Louisville, 
and Virginia Wilhaucks of Fulton, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren. 
She also leaves many other extended family members, church family, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss her.
 
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at the Olive Hill United Methodist Church 
with Brother John Lambert and Brother Bob Burton officiating. Burial followed in the Hillman Family Cemetery in Lawton.
 
Friends visited from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, 41164, 
and after 10 a.m. Sunday until the service hour at 11 a.m. at the Olive Hill Methodist Church.
 
Thelma’s grandsons served as pallbearers.
